How Many Electric Bicycles Have Been Sold in Turkey?

Since electric bicycles do not require vehicle registration or license plates, we cannot obtain precise data from TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute). However, based on our communication with manufacturers, we estimate that approximately 1,000,000 electric bicycles were sold in Turkey between 2019 and 2024.

We believe that 50% of these 1,000,000 electric bicycles were sold by MJ Group brands, including Kuba, RKS, Skyjet, Soultech, and GreenLife. Around 40% were likely sold by motorcycle manufacturers such as Volta, Yuki, Arora, and Motolux. The remaining 10% were sold by traditional bicycle manufacturers like Kron, Bisan, Salcano, and Corelli, etc.

According to information obtained from RKS Motor representatives, MJ Group brands produced 150,000 electric bicycles in 2023 and 180,000 in 2024, distributing them through dealerships and major retail chains such as BİM, A101, Teknosa, MediaMarkt, and Migros.

The lack of focus on e-bike production by traditional bicycle manufacturers over the past five years has allowed motorcycle manufacturers to dominate the electric bicycle market. It has been observed that 80% of the sold electric bicycles are foldable models, significantly reducing the market share of traditional foldable bicycles. In response, bicycle manufacturers have ramped up their e-bike production efforts toward the end of 2024, with initial shipments of small batches (10-20 units per dealer) recorded in December 2024 and January 2025. Additionally, several new e-bike manufacturers entered the Turkish market in 2024.

In conclusion, the electric bicycle market in Turkey has grown rapidly over the past five years, with motorcycle manufacturers capturing a significant share. The high demand for foldable models has negatively impacted traditional bicycle manufacturers, prompting them to shift their focus to e-bike production in 2024. As these manufacturers increase their investments in this sector, the Turkish electric bicycle market is expected to witness greater variety and intensified competition in the coming years.
